Two candidates will face each other this Sunday, July 7, for the second round of the legislative elections in the second constituency of Dordogne, that of Bergerac. Michel Delpon, the candidate of the presidential majority, former deputy defeated in 2022, who came in third place, decided on Monday to withdraw, without giving any specific voting instructions. The submission of candidacies for the second round ends this Tuesday at 6 p.m., but we already know the two protagonists of the upcoming duel in the constituency.

Serge Muller is the first National Rally candidate to be elected in Dordogne, in 2022. A nursing assistant in nursing homes, then a novice in politics, he beat the outgoing Renaissance deputy Michel Delpon by a short head with a 300-vote lead. His deputy is Christian Gérard, president of young people with Marine Le Pen in Dordogne.

Serge Muller’s challenger, Christophe Cathus, is a socialist elected official well established in the Bergerac region. He has been a regional councillor since 2015, and mayor of Calès, near Lalinde, since 2020. In 2022, he had already run for the legislative elections in the second constituency, but on a dissident socialist list. Already invested by the PS, he had refused to give way to a Nupes candidate, despite the alliance with LFI and EELV. Mathilde Bache is his substitute.
