Doussay holds the record for the National Rally (RN) vote in Châtelleraudais on 1is round of legislative elections. This small town of Lencloîtrais voted 55.4% on Sunday June 30 for the parachuted candidate from Gironde, Hager Jacquemin.

A result that is anything but an accident. Turnout was indeed significant in Doussay at 67.5%, or 24 points more than in 2022, when the village had already, but in lesser proportions (46%), placed the RN in pole position.

Contacted, the mayor of the commune, Philippe Bigot (non-party), had difficulty explaining this score. “People have been voting RN here for some time now”he comments.

“In any case, we don’t know the candidate”

Doussay, 700 inhabitants, is not the worst off of the rural communes. It has a school in an educational group with Orches and Savigny-sous-Faye. He still has a business, a multi-service business. “The population is not particularly aging. We have a lot of residents who work in Châtellerault”underlines the mayor.

So what ? “It’s more of a general feeling of fed upassure Philippe Bigot. I hear people talking around me: “This needs to change. Everything increases. We are promised things and it never changes. Must try…” There is a certain feeling of abandonment. For them, the RN is a national choice. In any case, we don’t know the candidate. »

Perfect tie at Mondion

Like Doussay, other municipalities gave more than 50% of the votes to the far-right party: Leigné-sur-Usseau, Leugny, Mairé, Ouzilly, Saint-Rémy-sur-Creuse, Sérigny… Common denominator : rurality, a certain geographical isolation, a small population.

More generally, the National Rally comes out on top in more or less large proportions in all the municipalities of the constituency with the notable exception of Châtellerault, La Roche-Posay… and Saint-Christophe, where the outgoing MoDem deputy Nicolas Turquois is in front.

Oddity of Sunday’s vote: in Mondion, the smallest commune in Châtelleraudais, the Jacquemin-Turquois tie is perfect with 27 votes each.

65% for the RN at La Chaussée

In Loudunais, the extremist surge is even more striking and confirms the first wave observed in the European elections. Hager Jacquemin made an excellent score (40%) in Loudun. Above all, it is in the majority in around fifteen localities, the prize going to La Chaussée, 188 inhabitants, which gave it nearly 65% of the votes.

“Republican surge”

The outgoing MP, a farmer in Loudunais, will need a lot “wet the jersey”, according to his expression on Sunday evening, to bring rural voters back to the fold. He invoked this Monday 1is July “a republican surge”. As they say in the countryside: it’s at the end of the ball that we pay the musicians.
