The helicopter was called in as reinforcements to transport the victims of an accident which occurred in Saint-James (Manche). But because of the accident, he was unable to intervene, France Bleu reveals to us. The helicopter was supposed to fly 60 kilometers from Rennes, but upon arrival, it hit an obstacle and had to stay on the ground.
The accident took place in Saint-James. A car was traveling at high speed when it hit a wall and an electrical box. The car caught fire and although the man and his 8-year-old son were able to get out, they were seriously injured. The child had to be transported to Tours to a burn unit.
An investigation is underway
An investigation is underway to understand the origin of the helicopter accident. The pilot fortunately managed to regain control of his machine before landing. Another helicopter then arrived to take the child to Tours. The father was transported in an ambulance to Caen University Hospital.
The air gendarmerie is investigating to understand the causes of the incident. The Samu 35 helicopter must be repaired, either on site or in a workshop depending on the damage. The pilot was not injured during this failed intervention.
