In Villefranche, Transit diversifies its activities

For several months, the activity of the Transit intensifies and diversifies. At the beginning of March 2024, the structure set up an entire organization to collect food waste from restaurants, school canteens, nursing homes, businesses… and this in consultation with the Villefranche Beaujolais Saône urban community.

“We have perfected our work tool and the number of customers is increasing,” underlines Pierre Vollé, director of Transit. Requested by the Quadria company, Transit began assembling composters for private gardens at the beginning of June. “We receive the pre-cut boards, then they are stapled and nailed with a compressed air network,” explains Pierre Vollé.

300 and 400 litre composters

Ces wooden composters with a capacity of 300 and 400 liters are 100% made in France, the wood and plastic coming from Nantua. “We sell everything we produce to the company Quadria, based near Bordeaux, which covers 90% of the French market in composters, he specifies. Then, these are shipped, via Quadria, in particular to local authorities which have placed orders such as, among others, the Beaujolais Pierres Dorées Community of Communes and the Saône Beaujolais Community of Communes.

The company also uses Transit for other more distant customers. Internally, the Transit wanted to simplify the assembly work so that it is accessible to everyone, women and men: there is no carrying heavy loads. This activity generated the creation of four jobstwo female and two male. It could expand in the future. Transit also carries out plastering/painting work (interior renovation), maintenance of green spaces, collects bulky items (for individuals) and waste (cardboard boxes, etc.).

A loan of €100,000 to expand its actions

To finance its new activities, including the collection of biowaste, Le Transit has taken out a loan of €100,000 from Crédit Coopératif over four years. A loan guarantee of 50% of the loan amount, requested from the City of Villefranche by the association, was validated by elected officials at the municipal council meeting of June 24.
