The Chartres club won third place in the Top 12, the French women’s chess championship, this Sunday, June 30. C’Chartres Échecs lost on Saturday to Monaco, eight-time European champion.

On Sunday, C’Chartres came third in the women’s Top 12. After losing to Monaco, eight times European champion, in the semi-finals, the Chartrains won the small final against Châlons-en-Champagne. “It’s very good for a first participation in the Top 12,” said François Gilles, president of C’Chartres Échecs.

Finalist in the French Cup

These different matches were played at the Chartres tourist office. In parallel with the Top 12, and at the same place, in the Coupe de France, Chartres eliminated Rennes in the semi-finals, but lost against Asnières in the final. The result was awarded in rapid play, after four draws in long games. Now, it’s time for the break before experiencing the European Cup, in October.

“It was an exceptional year. Next year will be a new challenge, we will try to take our best players to the European Cup to go as far as possible,” describes François Gilles.
