Three employees of a concrete manufacturing company located in Parçay-Meslay, in Indre-et-Loire, are accused of stealing nearly 300 m³ of this material from their employer. They were tried on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 before the Tours Criminal Court, reports The New Republic .

The three defendants are a truck driver, a plant manager and the operations manager. All claim to have only sold undistributed tank bottoms, a legal practice according to them. “It did not cause any harm to society”declared one of them at the hearing.

18 months suspended prison sentence required

However, the company’s director does not share this opinion. She is said to have banned this practice when she joined the company in 2018. It was in 2022 that she discovered the fraud during a stock inventory. In addition to concrete, 4,000 tonnes of aggregates were also allegedly sold illegally.

Each of the suspects would have managed to pocket €400 in bonuses each month thanks to these practices. The prosecutor requested 18 months in prison with suspended probation for each of the three defendants. The deliberations will be made on Tuesday July 2, 2024.
