Stray Cat Sterilization Campaign Bastia 2024

The City of Bastia, in partnership with several animal protection associations and veterinary clinics, is launching the start of the stray cat sterilization campaign for the year 2024. This initiative, which will take place from July 1 to December 31, 2024aims to better integrate animals into our urban environment and control their population for the well-being of all.

Stray cats, while often endearing, can quickly multiply, leading to overpopulation. This situation is not only harmful to the animals themselves, but also to the residents of the city. By identifying and sterilizing these cats, we can prevent problems related to overpopulation, such as disease, malnutrition and nuisance.

To carry out this campaign, the City of Bastia is collaborating with three animal protection associations: “SOS 4 Pattes 2B”, “Animaux en distress” and “The Stray Cats 2B”. These associations are responsible for capturing stray cats on municipal territory. The Cyrnevet and Cas’Animalia veterinary clinics will also play a role in carrying out the sterilization and care of the cats.

The sterilization campaign is financed by the Municipality of Bastia, the Society for the Protection of Animals (SPA) and the Brigitte Bardot Foundation. This financial support helps cover the costs related to the capture, identification, sterilization and care of stray cats.

Previous campaigns have shown very promising results through this system. Building on these successes, we are renewing this campaign in 2024 to continue our mission of animal protection and preserving the quality of life of the Bastiais.

The role of each :

• THE CITY :

  • Supervises the progress of the campaign
  • Issues a municipal decree to authorize associations to trap and sterilize stray cats on municipal territory.
  • Communicate with the population about the existence of this campaign
  • Participate financially in the campaign

ANIMAL PROTECTION ASSOCIATIONS:

  • Trap stray cats
  • Take them to the vet
  • Bring them back to the trapping site
  • Maintain a tracking chart of sterilized animals

VETERINARIANS:

  • Proceed to the identification and sterilization of cats.

Attention ! Make sure your animal is properly identified so as not to be confused with a stray cat!
