Lexar Professional Silver Plus microSDXC UHS-1 Review: Finally a C…

The microSD memory card is a great thing. Tiny yet powerful, it’s found in everything from smartphones to drones. These cards are essential storage media for both individuals and professionals.

However, finding a high-quality card at an affordable price can be difficult. Especially since the market is flooded with low-quality and counterfeit cards, which pose significant risks to data integrity and device performance.

Lexar, a brand I have trusted for over a decade, has released a new microSD card, the Lexar Professional Silver Plus microSDXC UHS-1. This storage card combines professional-level performance and reliability at an affordable price. And I recently put it to the test.

Top 3 Takeaways from the Lexar Professional Silver Plus microSDXC UHS-1 Memory Card

  • The Lexar Professional Silver Plus microSDXC UHS-1 memory card is available in 64 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB capacities.
  • This is a professional grade card at a consumer price that comes with an SD card adapter.
  • For some, the 256GB capacity cap might be too low.

Yes, it’s just a microSD card. But if you’ve ever had one fail in a drone while you were trying to capture a unique shot, you know the importance of a quality storage card. This card is perfect for a wide range of applications and has been tested by Lexar for compatibility with devices from companies like DJI, GoPro, Nintendo, and Steam Deck.

The card has a video class speed of V30 and a UHS speed of U3, meaning it can reach a minimum of 30MB/s. It also boasts an A2 application performance rating, indicating it can manage 4000 IOPS (Input/output operations per second) minimum in random read, 2000 IOPS minimum in random write and 10 MB/s minimum in sustained sequential write.

It’s not the fastest, but it’s good enough

While it’s not the fastest microSD card on the market (if you need something faster, look for cards rated V60 or V90) it’s more than enough for anyone looking for a reliable storage medium that can support 4K video recording at 60fps.

I tested this card in two ways.

First, I used several benchmark tools and got read and write results close to the advertised 205MB/s read and 150MB/s write.

Test with a MacBook Pro

For all testing, I connected the card to my MacBook Pro using the Lexar RW310 memory card reader. I also used the card on a number of devices, from drones to action cameras to a dashcam, and it worked without issue.

In terms of performance, this card is perfect for capturing 4K video in H.265 format, which is more than enough for most people’s needs.

It’s sturdy, reliable, and has an excellent warranty, as well as free recovery software in case you accidentally delete important footage.

Buying advice for the Lexar Professional Silver Plus microSDXC UHS-1 memory card

The Lexar Professional Silver Plus microSDXC UHS-1 is a great card at an affordable price. While the capacity is limited to 64GB, 128GB, or 256GB, I think it’s plenty for most applications. Larger cards can make it harder to unload data and erase the card, increasing the risk of data loss. Just today, I heard about someone who lost a drone. The card contained not only footage from the day the drone was lost, but also GoPro footage from a trip to Kilimanjaro and a canoe trip elsewhere. Losing a drone is bad, but losing that data is devastating.

In terms of performance, this card is perfect for capturing 4K video in H.265 format, which is more than enough for most people’s needs. Strong and reliable, it comes with an excellent warranty and free recovery software in case you accidentally delete important footage.

This is an excellent card that I highly recommend. The 64GB, 128GB and 256GB versions cost €16, €22 and €32 and are a real bargain.
