It was not time for celebration after the announcement of the results for the third constituency of Aveyron for the candidates present there.

Reddened eyes, tight throats, vague gazes. The atmosphere was not one of victory at the Millau village hall this Sunday evening. Although the results displayed give Richard Bouigue in the lead in the sub-prefecture of South-Aveyron, as the evening progresses, the trend in the constituency is less pleasing for the left and the camp of the outgoing deputy. “How can we vote for hate?” says Emmanuelle Gazel, the mayor of Millau.

The wave of the extreme right has indeed swept through South Aveyron, while its candidate, Pierre-Antoine Fèvre, parachuted in for the occasion, did not campaign in the territory and was not even present in Sud-Aveyron to comment and analyze the evening results.

“A result that challenges me”

It is therefore difficult to find satisfaction in the words of Jean-François Rousset. “It’s a result that concerns me, reacts the outgoing MP, second in this first round (32.45%). I am part of a generation that has experienced strong commitments against the extremes and I want to lead this fight for the second round.”

The question of who will run against him arises precisely. In third place, Richard Bouigue (28.81%) has not confirmed his withdrawal, even though it seems obvious. “We will not procrastinatehe exclaimed hotly. “It is still too early to analyse the results of the entire constituency.” Those close to the outgoing MP have launched a strong appeal to the left, where they will need votes to get ahead of the far right.

“A rally of the South Aveyron people”

And Jean-François Rousset wasted no time in putting his overalls back on and setting off again with his campaign arguments. “We will ensure that the people of South Aveyron rally together so as not to have the National Rally in power, resumes the outgoing deputy. We need to work on subjects that we had not identified such as simplification, dealing with inherent problems such as insecurity, felt and real. There is an increase in domestic violence.”

It was therefore not time for victory in the Rousset clan but for reflection to lay the foundations, write the profession of faith and set off again on the campaign in the constituency, unlike his future adversary, Pierre-Antoine Fèvre. “He is an outstanding candidate who benefited from a very political vote, he only had to adhere to the image of Bardella to benefit from this score.” It now remains to be seen how the local right, historically absent from this election in the constituency, will position itself.
