Former French international Christophe Dugarry thinks Didier Deschamps is making a mistake by changing his playing system once again.

To challenge Belgium, and even if he did not acknowledge it during the pre-match press conference, Didier Deschamps will have the French team play in a 4-4-2 diamond formation. A new system that has seduced some, like Raymond Domenech, but which also worries other observers. Christophe Dugarry, for example, is “not at all excited”.

“Duga” is known for not having a fondness for Deschamps. On Sunday evening, on M6, he did not hesitate to say that he absolutely did not approve of his changes.
“I’m surprised. It’s a 4e match and a third different organization. It is surprising. Kanté’s return just before the tournament proves that there were doubts. And there, there are still some. It’s not DD and it’s uncertain.”

Dugarry does not agree with Deschamps

The 98 world champion then developed his reasoning by suggesting that the coach does not choose his team based on the opposing weak points. “ I am not convinced by this organization because Belgium’s big weak point is its defense. I would have put Barcola and Dembélé on them. With them, I guarantee they would have suffered and slept badly. But if the coach put the 4-4-2 it is because he has his ideas.”

Deschamps fumbles too much according to Dugarry

And when asked, which system would he have chosen, he replied: “I would have stayed with a very offensive team. With Griezmann at 10 but with wing players too. A 4-2-3-1 would have been the best solution.”

“Players in the best conditions”

Present on the same set, his former teammate Alain Boghossian half-validated: “ Yes, this system does not allow you to be dangerous in the corridors. But it is not certain that he will end up like that. He wants to put the players in the best conditions. He is trying to find the right solution.
