A man lost his life and three other people were seriously injured during a head-on collision in Sainte-Julie on Highway 30 during the night from Sunday to Monday.

An emergency call was made around 11:45 p.m. Sunday, reporting a collision between two vehicles near the Highway 30 exit in Sainte-Julie.

According to initial reports, a septuagenarian, alone in his vehicle, was driving in the wrong direction on the westbound road when he hit a vehicle heading east with three people on board, according to Sûreté du Québec (SQ) spokesperson Elizabeth Marquis-Guy.

The four people involved in the accident were transported to a hospital, where the septuagenarian was pronounced dead.

A passenger in the second vehicle, a woman in her nineties, is reportedly in critical condition in hospital, and her life is feared. The other two people were hospitalized for serious injuries that are not life-threatening, according to the SQ spokesperson.

Traffic on Highway 30 in Sainte-Julie was blocked at Chemin de la Belle Rivière to allow investigators to analyze the scene Monday morning.

An investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances that led to this road accident.
