Multisport: the Aquaterra changes direction

The 13th edition of Aquaterra, a nature sports festival taking place around Lake Bort-les-Orgues, returns on July 13. With a lot of changes.

At the crossroads of the departments of Corrèze, Puy-de-Dôme and Cantal, l’Aquaterra has become an unmissable event in the nature sports calendar taking place in central France. On July 13, the event which brings together trails, hikes and swimrun should attract more than 1,000 competitors to Bort-les-Orgues. In this 13th edition, modifications have been made.

Choice and a beautiful playground

Like last year, the program is packed: five trails (80, 47, 27, 15, 8 km), three hikes (27, 15, 8 km) and three swimruns (34, 21, 10 km). But this time, the organizers have decided to bring some new features. In particular on the 80 km course which, for the first time since 2011, offers runners the opportunity to turn in reverse, i.e. clockwise. “They will first walk along the right bank of the lake and the Dordogne to discover the route in a different way and have totally new and different points of view”, details the organization. The highlight of the tour of Lake Bort-les-Orgues is the passage inside the hydroelectric dam.

On the 47 km, the participants will leave from the Chapelle des Manants thanks to a crossing of the lake supervised by the organization. From there, they will go to the dyke of the Arpiat bridge, the end of the lake, then make a U-turn to return to Bort, while treading the sand of the Grange Haute beach and discovering the ruins of the castle from Thynières. Concerning the 27 km course, it is intended to be demanding and technical, with passages along the water but also in the forest. Routes 27, 15 and 8 km long, for trails and hikes, are common. For their part, the three swimsruns will look more like swimtrails, with running courses that are far from easy to challenge.
