One year after the riots, time for measures for the City of Saint-Brieuc

On the night of June 29 to 30, 2023, Saint-Brieuc was, like several Breton cities, the scene of urban riots. In “this exceptional context”, the City of Saint-Brieuc wanted to “take some time for collective analysis around these events”, the municipality recalls in a press release. After a conference led by sociologist Thomas Sauvadet in February and a collection of testimonies from Briochins in May, now is “the time for measures”.

All municipal services have thus developed tools “to get even closer to the populations, adapt the systems and carry out concrete actions”.

Prevention, mediation, call for projects

Among these: a call for projects for “children and youth leisure outside the walls”, carried out in conjunction with popular education associations for this summer 2024; the implementation of social mediation actions with the recruitment of two agents and meetings in the neighborhoods called “Citizen Cafés”; the creation of two working groups led by the City for the benefit of young people, with popular education associations, National Education, social action actors and those from the Police and Justice.

We also find, pell-mell, the establishment of a project around the prevention of the participation of young people in drug trafficking, the development of a territorial educational project or even the establishment of exploratory walks, the modification of the public lighting zoning, the acquisition of a second mobile camera, as well as the increase in the quality of service by the lessor and in public spaces.
