“If they want to make decisions, they have to play themselves”, De Bruyne still teases his supporters

Before the round of 16 of Euro 2024 against France this Monday (6 p.m.), Belgian captain Kévin De Bruyne addressed the supporters of the Red Devils, a few days after turning his back on them against Ukraine.

Will the Belgian players and fans bury the hatchet before the Euro round of 16 against France this Monday in Düsseldorf? After the Red Devils’ indigestible performance against Ukraine in the last match of the group stage (0-0) – which still allowed them to be second – the Belgian fans whistled the players, especially when they were about to approach them, after the end of the match in Stuttgart.

The captain Kevin de Bruyne So he ordered his players to turn around and not go and greet the Belgian fans, which increased the whistles from the reserved stand even more. Some players waved to the crowd from afar, and De Bruyne then gathered staff and teammates for a short speech.

6,000 Belgian supporters expected this Monday

A few hours before meeting the Blues for a rematch of 2018, the Manchester City player once again called out the Red Devils’ followers. “We simply need the supporters to play well. I think the team made every effort during the three matches. Sometimes, you don’t win, it happens. I can understand the frustration of some people. We make decisions during the match. They may think that they are not the best choices, but they are the ones we made. If they want to make decisions, they have to work and play football themselves,” he confided to RTBF.

The Belgian Football Federation has announced that 6,000 Red Devils supporters will be in the stands for this match. But there could be more Belgian fans. Some of those met on Sunday were not part of the official trip but had bought their tickets individually. Liège is only a 1.5 hour drive from Düsseldorf, for example.
