According to the latest official figures from the FPS Economy, Belgians made 23 million trips of at least one night in 2023. This figure is an increase of 2.2% compared to the 2019 record. A time when Covid does not did not exist, where inflation was stable and purchasing power was doing better. But faced with successive crises, one sector is doing better than the others: tourism.

However, it was the first to stop and the last to resume, and the worst was predicted on a social level. At best, the recovery was initially announced in 2025 or 2026. Except that. Except that going on vacation seems to have become an absolute priority for Belgian households.

In 2024, the average budget for a household has been estimated at €2,736, or 25.3% more than in 2023! If we take into account the figures from TUI, the country’s number 1 tour operator, the price per adult reaches an average of €1,494, which is €500 more than in 2019.

Post-covid Travel Revenge or rotten weather in Belgium, several factors can explain this. And if the majority of households make efforts on other expenditure items, we always treat ourselves to a luxury during the summer: getting away. We are obviously not going to blame those who leave, that would be cheeky. But, did you mention a crisis?
