The New Popular Front in the lead, EELV re-elected in the first round

She was one of the first to relaunch the campaign. Marie-Charlotte Garin, outgoing MP for the 3rd constituency of the Rhône and candidate for the New Popular Front, was re-elected on Sunday, in the first round of the early legislative elections.

The other candidates of the left-wing union, in Lyon intra-muros, came out on top in the city.

The young 28-year-old elected official, who received 51.51% of the votes, was elected for the first time in June 2022 in this constituency which includes the 3rd, 7th and 8th arrondissements of Lyon. Another NFP candidate, Boris Tavernier, a 44-year-old community activist specializing in food issues, therefore from civil society, narrowly failed with 49.65% of the votes. He will face presidential camp candidate Loïc Terrenes (25.12%) in the second round.

In this 2nd constituency, north of Lyon, which includes the sensitive district of La Duchère, the seat was previously held by Hubert Julien-Laferrière, who left the Ecologist parliamentary group in February due to suspicions of corruption in a foreign interference case handled by the National Financial Prosecutor’s Office (PNF) and announced his departure from politics.

A triangular with the RN

The RN has invited itself for a three-way race in the two other constituencies in the city. In the 1st constituency, Anaïs Belouassa-Cherifi, 29, an LFI activist who was part of Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s campaign team, is in the lead with 42.40% of the vote, ahead of the outgoing deputy of the presidential camp Thomas Rudigoz (29.72%). The RN candidate Laurent Mouton collected 18.10% of the vote.

And in the 4th constituency, it is the socialist Sandrine Runel, deputy mayor of Lyon, who comes first in the first round with 38% of the votes. The outgoing deputy from the presidential camp Anne Brugnera follows her with 31.03%. RN candidate Yannick Chaumont (17.91%) is also qualified for the next round.
