Every year, repair and towing rates on motorways and expressways increase. This will be +2.87% from December 1, 2024. Which represents a little more than 21% increase in 10 years.
It's hard to get used to it, but every year the prices for repairs and towing vehicles on motorways and expressways increase. From December 1, 2024, you will have to pay €148.67 instead of €144.52, or 2.87% more.
Repair operations, towing and evacuation of vehicles on motorways or expressways are strictly supervised and must be carried out by approved companies. Prices are also regulated and are set each year by an order from the Minister of the Economy, Finance and Industry.
The obligations of the participants
For some time now, many motorists have been complaining about paying hefty highway repair bills. The cause is unauthorized tow truck operators, who scan navigation applications (Waze, Google Maps, etc.) to identify “vehicle stopped on the shoulder” reports and arrive before the official tow truck. And there, the bill can be very steep, 10 times higher than the official rates.
To protect yourself from these thieves, the first reflex must be to ask, when calling via the emergency terminal or your insurer, the name of the repair company mandated for the intervention.
Then, when the recovery vehicle arrives on site, be aware that the pricing information must be displayed in the vehicle's cabin. After repairing or evacuating the vehicle, the professional must give you an invoice indicating the services provided as well as their price.
Please note, the supply of spare parts and labor time beyond the 30 minutes included in the service will be charged extra. But as these prices are free, it is wise to find out their amount before letting the repairer carry out a longer intervention.
And, if the vehicle cannot be repaired on site, it must be left either in the service provider's garage (without distance limitation) or in a location of your choice located less than 5 km from the motorway exit. or the expressway.
Beyond that, charges for additional kilometers traveled may apply. Again, ask for pricing before the wrecker hits the road.
