The American brand is interested in setting up shop in Neuvic, along the highway. A real chance for development for the mayor, an invitation to junk food for opponents.
On the Internet, the petition collected almost 190 signatures this Friday, November 22. A collective of citizens opposes the installation of the American fast-food giant, McDonald's, in the town of Neuvic, as announced by “France Bleu Périgord”. Information verified by “DL”. Last October, the mayor of the town, Paulette Sicre-Doyotte, granted a building permit so that the brand could set up next to Intermarché.
A McDonald’s, but not at any price
“Everything was in compliance, I could only grant the building permit,” defends the councilor. The brand will have to carry out an archaeological diagnosis. » If no remains are found during the excavations, the McDonald's should emerge from the ground within six or eight months, more if there is additional work to be carried out. Two or three other brands should set up, thus benefiting from the visibility of the fast-food restaurant. “Ultimately, this should generate almost 70 jobs,” underlines the mayor.
For opponents, the installation of this fast food restaurant is a call for junk food and above all, “unfair competition” to downtown businesses. An argument that the councilor dismisses out of hand: “We have been revitalizing and carrying out work in the city center for 30 years, it is not to lose our businesses. » The elected official assures that the installation of the signs will not be done at any cost. “May the traders rest assured, I am viscerally attached to the businesses of the town. There will be no competition because the brands will complete the offer. It will be, for example, a gym or DIY, and not a bakery or a florist. »
For the councilor, the opponents' speech is hypocritical. “At that point, they should stop buying Nutella and Coca-Cola,” she quips. With the development of this economic zone, the municipal team also hopes to keep young people active in the town because they will have more services at their disposal.
