The Côte-d’Or, Nièvre, Saône-et-Loire and Yonne have all been placed on orange storm alert by Météo France. Heavy rainfall is expected across the region this Saturday, June 29.

They become an almost weekly event. This Saturday, June 29, thunderstorms are expected again in Burgundy. As of Friday, Météo France had in fact placed all the departments of the region – Côte-d’Or, Nièvre, Saône-et-Loire and Yonne, as well as Doubs, Jura, Haute-Saône and Territoire de Belfort for Franche -County – on orange alert.

The first precipitations arrived at midday and continued in the afternoon, depending on the location. Sandy rains fell in several areas, particularly in Saône-et-Loire, Côte-d’Or and Yonne, as reported by Internet users on social networks.

Around 6 p.m., a “stormy line” is taking place in Yonne, as noted by the Météo89 account, which specifies that “arcus type clouds” are formed in front: “stormy degradation sets in with storms coming from Nièvre and Loiret. Thunderstorms will increase everywhere in Yonne over the next hour.

Violent storms had already hit part of the region ten days earlier. During the night of June 19 to 20, five supercell storms passed over the Saône-et-Loire, causing significant damage in places. In the Mâconnais, many plots of vines have particularly suffered from bad weather.

However, it was Nièvre that was the most affected by this stormy episode. The latter affected around fifty municipalities, in an area extending from the northeast to the southwest of the department. The most affected were Pougues-les-Eaux, Germigny and Chaulgnes. There, 98 centimeters of water fell in two hours.

On June 26, Franche-Comté was also swept by violent storms, particularly in Haute-Saône.It was a torrent in the middle of the village, we had never had that. The rain fell for half an hour, it was very fast and violent“, explained Jean Marchal, mayor of La Breurey-lès-Faverney, to France 3 Franche-Comté.
