A burned house and a life that goes up in smoke. Christelle and Paul-François Palmari, a couple living in Nebbiu, lost everything after the fire of their wooden house located in the plain of Poggio d'Oletta. The events occurred on the night of Tuesday November 19 to Wednesday November 20, : “I just had time to grab my cell phone,” confides, still in shock, Christelle Dervieux-Palmari, 55, who has lived in this home for 12 years with her 62-year-old husband.
Faced with this tragedy, a prize pool on the internet* was launched by the “Maria Gentile” association working in the village. Nearly 4,000 euros have already been raised to help the couple pay immediate expenses: “it's simply a matter of allowing them to have liquidity, explains Antoine Vincenti, the mayor of the town. They lost everything. They no longer have clothes and everyday objects. We also organized a meeting to support the victims at the town hall. The prize pool is there to allow people who want to help and who were not able to come to the meeting to participate.”
“I wake up to a burning smell”
According to initial information, the fire started accidentally from the electric meter. Christelle Dervieux-Palmari still has all the details in mind: “I wake up around 5:30 a.m. with a burning smell and I hear a crackling sound. We see that the meter is on fire. With the lack of electricity, we were unable to take anything and we had to leave in a hurry places.”
The single-storey house with a surface area of 80 m² was also used to accommodate guests who occupied the couple's three guest rooms, located in outbuildings. One of the activities of the Palmari family coupled with the rental of equines.
“When we have nothing left, we are completely naked”
While waiting to be able to rebuild their home on the same land, the couple lives in guest rooms. Still stunned by the disaster: “my daughter's birthday was the next dayadds Christelle Dervieux-Palmari. The presents were in the house. It's a detail. But when we have nothing left, we are completely naked. There, we have to buy shoes.”
The village solidarity movement comes as a breath of fresh air: “At first, it was hard to accept, we were embarrassed. But when there is something good in this world, you also have to accept it and not refuse it. We would like to thank all these people who are reaching out. This will allow us to cover immediate costs, such as buying clothes.”
A temporary situation before hoping to be able to quickly rebuild a house on their land.
