Francos de Montréal 2024 | Unrestrained Galaxy – Are you going out? – Media for cultural outings in Montreal and Quebec

Galaxie offered a dance party to the sound of its energizing rock this Friday, in a full MTelus which vigorously swayed its hips.

The group Galaxie is led by Olivier Langevin and offers a mix of rock and dance music through which the talented members of the group can groove to the maximum of their capacity.

Olivier Langevin is on vocals and guitar, Karine Pion (Louis-Jean Cormier, Fred Pellerin, the Héritières project) is on choir and percussion. Obviously, Langevin’s lifelong sidekick is never far away since Fred Fortin is on bass, his favorite instrument, which he handles perfectly in this context with a big round sound and a relentless groove. François Lafontaine (Karkwa, Marie-Pierre Arthur, Klaus) is on keyboards and Pierre Fortin (Les Dales Hawerchuk, Drogue, Les Cowboys fringants, Gros méné) is on drums. We were also able to see him on the stage Bell alongside Marie-Annick Lépine, a little earlier in the evening.

With a strong entry, the group is not lazy, thanks to a rhythm section on point and the flights of Lafontaine which alternate between lyricism and wildness. Karine Pion enters the scene with an outfit that looks like an alternative samurai and a modern viking, including a helmet with illuminated horns. Pierre Fortin wears a mask with silver sequins and Langevin has beautiful gold lamé pants. Lafontaine and Fortin are dressed as usual…

If Langevin is a top-flight guitarist, he knows how to stay sober with his Galaxie project. Leaving a lot of room for his peers, he mainly takes care of the rhythms and nevertheless gives us a few solos with a particularly enjoyable fuzz sound.

Olivier Langevin’s voice benefits from the unconditional support of that of Karine Pion, always in tune and in place. Even if she often seems in the background, her vocal and percussion interventions represent a big plus to the group. And all with a huge knowing smile and lots of obvious fun!

We know the Galaxie repertoire, big danceable rock. And the pieces follow one another without dropping the atmosphere, things move happily around me and I see women of all ages dancing like hell. The guys are more restrained, but the party is over in less than two hours.

There will be two calmer songs performed as a duo by Langevin and Pion, one in the middle of the concert and another to close the evening. A lovely gift to wish us a lovely evening.

Galaxie gave us an energetic set that immediately captivated the MTelus audience. The five musicians were able to show the full extent of their talent, but always remaining at the service of Langevin’s titles. Which was very delectable.

Bobo Ono opening

To open the evening, Bobo Ono, Nicolas Beaudoin’s group, warms up the place with its music with influences between psychedelic and more danceable rock. Nicolas Beaudoin is recognized in particular for his studio work and his work with Karkwa.

It is also a rich formation which accompanies Nicolas Beaudoin (vocals, guitar) with Nicolas Gosselin (guitar), Dany Placard (guitar), Simon Gauthier (bass), Jonathan Lafrance (drums) and the participation of Deuxluxes: Étienne Barry on keyboards and Anna Frances Meyer on backing vocals.

And it’s pretty loud, with the three guitars and a rhythm section particularly forward in the mix. Even if the MTelus audience often has difficulty with the opening acts, they were able to gently attract the attention of a large part of the audience with their particularly energetic rock this evening. They even end with a title that sounds like Galaxie: “As Olivier Langevin came into the studio and told me that it was correct, we’ll let you enjoy it tonight! »

A great performance from Bobo Ono who always knows how to deliver concerts with lively atmospheres and perfectly warm up a room for the friends of Galaxie.
