Thousands of square meters of waste have been rotting at the foot of a university campus since this summer. The guard is exasperated, he has already received numerous complaints from the 260 students who live in the building all year round: “They mainly complain about rats and mosquitoes which are appearing more and more in the residence”he tells us.
Last spring, Roma squatted on land located on the A86 motorway. The inhabitants of the slum are transforming Decathlon's commercial wasteland into a wild dump. In August, the occupants of the area were evicted by the authorities but not the construction waste.
For Olivier Sarrabeyrouse, mayor (PCF) of Noisy-le-Sec: “Decathlon knew perfectly well that there was deterioration on its own territory. […] It's private property so it's their responsibility.”. A statement to which the sports equipment brand responds:
The company accuses the prefecture of having delayed in acting, causing irreversible damage and says it is taking the State to court.
A response that caused scandal among the municipal opposition. According to his elected officials, the mayor must force the hand of the private owner: “He is a defaulting owner but for this, we can force him. The environmental code even gives the mayor the power to impose administrative fines which can reach up to 15,000 euros”assures Jean-Paul Lefebvre, municipal councilor (DVD).
The landfill is wedged between two strategic areas. On one side, the future establishment of an Olympic skatepark, on the other the construction site of line 15 of the Grand Paris Express. The neighborhood with waste will therefore become more and more annoying.
