Victim of death threats, the mayor of this Loire-Atlantique commune “disappointed” by the court judgment

This Friday, November 22, 2024, the court of Saint-Nazaire (Loire-Atlantique) summoned two men prosecuted, one for having sent a letter threatening death to Thierry Noguetthe mayor of Montoir-de-Bretagne, because of his positions on the fertilizer company Yara; the other for having stoned the home of the mayor of Saint-Joachim, Raphaël Salaün.

Both are tried in a so-called preliminary admission of guilt hearing (more commonly called “guilty plea”).

“A bad signal sent”

The decision in the first case is already known: the defendant, who very timidly apologized, was fined 1,000 euros with a three-year ban on appearing in Montoir and coming into contact with Thierry Noguet as well as with the Yara employee whose identity he usurped.

On the civil side, the Saint-Nazaire court ordered him to pay 4,000 euros in damages to the mayor, 2,500 euros to his wife and 973 euros for lawyer's fees.

At the end of the hearing, Thierry Noguet said he was “dejected”, “disappointed” by the sentence handed down. He hoped for a suspended prison sentence.

“This is a bad signal sent in the fight against the violence to which elected officials are victims,” declared the first Montoirin councilor.
