“It’s a committed and human adventure above all”: eight colleagues will run in Calvi for the Maison des Femmes

On Saturday November 9, eight notaries took on an unusual challenge: running a trail in Calvi to raise funds for the association “La Maison des Femmes”.

“We must not kid ourselves, when we embark on a project like that, it takes time… But, humanly speaking, the adventure is superb.”

After a difficult year at the Notary’s Office, Nathalie Barthaburu wanted to organize a project that would do the team some good and allow them to support a good cause. “That’s how a month ago, I presented them with the idea of raising funds for an association by doing a trail!”

Two additional Loiret athletes selected for the Paris Olympic Games

“I’m originally from Orléans, but I really have a fondness for Corsica, and Calvi in particular. At the same time, I wanted to show them the land of my heart.” In the coming months, the notary will take on the role of coach after work, to bring this crazy project to fruition and prepare her colleagues.

On Thursday, June 27, the eight women from the NOTACT Notary Office set foot on the training ground for the first time and even the heatwave did not stop them. Their names ? Majolaine Mallet, Chloé Seror, Nathalie Condon, Valérie Gadras, Aurore Bardereau, Caroline Marcarez, Sofia Amireche and Nathalie Barthaburu.

Commitment, the foundation of this unusual project

“We didn’t want to go to such lengths for nothing, we wanted there to be a positive impact, so we chose to donate the funds raised to La Maison des Femmes.” The choice of the association was a collective decision which quickly made sense. As women, they feel that this is a cause that concerns and unites them all.

This public utility association is responsible for welcoming, caring for and supporting women who are victims of violence. Created in November 2021 by health professionals, the unit is attached to the CHR d’Orléans and depends on donations and the help of its volunteers. A medical-psycho-social team is specially trained in violence against women.

“Allowing these women to have a safe space, a reception and listening structure, to access social workers, to be able to file a complaint without leaving the hospital thanks to the police on-call services… that’s why we’re undertaking this adventure.”

These eight women hope to give visibility to this Orléans association, which fights against physical, psychological and verbal violence against women. “Beyond being a feminist cause, it is also respect for others, fighting against discrimination… It ultimately affects everyone, not just women.”

They were convinced to join forces with La Maison des Femmes when it was explained to them concretely what the money they had collected would be used for. The funds will make it possible to finance sports, self-defense and relaxation sessions, but also to improve the association’s premises and hire staff.

“I have the impression that we are all at a point in our lives where we want to help someone. There are people who need funds, and, on our scale, we can start to make a difference.”

“We want to do it for these women who surpass themselves and who take it.” The name of the association, “Les Immort’Elles”, takes its name from a yellow flower which is found in particular in Corsica, and whose particularity is that it does not require much to survive. Full of benefits, it embodies the spirit of these eight women, in this idea of doing good to those around you and leaving a trace.

“A moment of sharing in the effort”

Organized by the “Sport in Calvi” association, the trail takes place on Saturday November 9, 2024, the event aims to be both sporting and festive. Alongside the adult trail, races for children and family activities are planned. On Saturday, the race will follow an evening with live music and DJ, adding a friendly and festive dimension to this celebration of sport.

“It’s very important to keep this festive side and good atmosphere. What we set out for is a pretty heavy message to carry. We needed it to be joyful and in good humor.”

“There’s the effort of the trail, and then there’s the comfort! There’s the typical Corsican evening with Corsican wine and charcuterie, that’s how I try to motivate them!” They’re all going to do the trail, either 10km or 16km. For some, it’s their first experience of running. “I don’t necessarily have any apprehensions, I’m especially eager to surpass myself in something I don’t know!” exclaims Marjolaine Mallet.

“Our spirit matches the organization of the trail. It’s really representative of who we are. We’re going to put in the effort but it remains a very nice event, centered around friendship and celebration.”

Discover yourself outside of work

“For some of us, we know each other at work but we’ve never had the chance to talk outside of work, so it’s the perfect opportunity to get to know each other!” smiles Chloé Seror.

Beyond giving visibility to a cause that touches them, this project between colleagues has brought them closer than ever. “I see things differently when I come to the office. There is another dimension that is within the work now.” Organizing travel, finding sponsors, training or even communicating on networks… All this gives life to the Notary’s Office and encourages these women to demonstrate team spirit.

“It created a real dynamic. We send each other messages, we encourage each other, it brings us closer together.”

Far from being exhausted, they have more than four months to prepare themselves mentally and physically. “We have all started training, each on our own, but I think I speak for everyone when I say that it is much more motivating to embark on this together.” The “trail in Calvi”, a challenge that is both sporting and committed, will allow these eight women to surpass themselves, raise funds for an association that is close to their hearts while discovering Corsica and developing cohesion within the team.

In the first round of Wimblebon, Maxime Janvier, licensed at the Gien Tennis Club, will face Zhizhen Zhang

Even though they’re going to train hard in the coming months, that won’t stop them from enjoying these moments of sharing. “We’re already planning aperitifs after training!” they exclaim in unison.
