Safety instructions
Consequently, the metropolitan services transmit the safety instructions and traffic conditions to follow at the arrival of this period. Vehicles must be equipped with snow tires or chains,”especially if you live high up“, it is recommended. The storage of salt and a shovel is also recommended. During episodes of bad weather, the Metropolis also invites residents to check the condition of the roads and transport services, which must be prioritized.
Who shovels what?
In the event of snow on the road or icy conditions, the Métropole de Lyon reminds that curative treatment is carried out. Preventive treatment is reserved for specific situations (bridges, footbridges, expressways, etc.). Furthermore, metropolitan roads are hierarchized into three intervention priority levels. The busiest public transport routes in the TCL network (C1, C2… C26) and transit and heavy traffic routes have priority. “During heavy snowfall, the action may involve level I several times before undertaking levels II and III.“, adds the Métropole de Lyon.
Furthermore, until the system is lifted next March, intervention personnel are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If the Metropolis is responsible for the metropolitan roads, the municipalities are required to clear snow from the roads. municipal spaces (gardens, parks, etc.). The Prefecture ensures coordination of actions. The citizen is responsible for clearing snow in front of his home, private roads or subdivisions, according to the municipal decree of each city.
Also, strategic points are established as part of a coordination and intervention plan. The first of these are the La Mulatière bridge, the Kitchener bridge and the Choulans climb in Lyon or the northern access to the tunnel under Fourvière.
