XALIMANEWS- It is a waste export network hidden under dubious official declarations. It was notably dismantled in Livorno, a port in Tuscany, Italy. The joint operation of the carabinieri of the ecological unit of Grosseto and local customs launched on November 19, made it possible to get their hands on a load of twenty-four (24) tons of used tires, ready to head to the Senegal.

L’Observateur, which provides the information, informs that these tires, piled up and compressed in an anarchic manner, bore the marks of careless storage, folded to the point of harming their structure.
“They were unusable and represented a threat to road safety,” says the newspaper, quoting a person in charge of the operation.

The latter indicate that Italian agents, supported by counterparts from the Darsena ports, have uncovered a real waste export network. “The load included 2,142 used tires,” informed the military services.

“Although they have been classified as special waste since certification in 2003, storage and export directives have not been respected,” they added.

The exporter, informed the same source, is an Italian entrepreneur active in the field of plastics recycling, is now targeted by multiple charges: illegal management and trafficking of waste, violation of articles 256 and 259 of the law consolidated on the environment….
