In Lozère, a young victim of a serious accident at his high school is currently in a coma. A major solidarity mobilization surrounds this Ales family.
And grave accident occurred on Tuesday, November 12, at the agricultural high school of Saint-Chély-d'Apcher, in Lozère. Elena, a 16-year-old student in her second year of CAP in the equestrian sector, was crushed by a “Manitou” type machine. The wheels of the vehicle stopped just “a few centimeters from his head”, Aurélie, his mother, tells us. The teenager is still in a coma to this day.
The young girl suffered serious injuries, including trauma to her lungs, spleen, liver, and several fractures, notably to her leg and foot. Placed in an artificial coma, she was rushed by the civil security helicopter, Dragon 34, to the hospital in Lapeyronie du CHU de Montpellier in Hérault, where she is being treated at the Department of Anesthesia and Intensive Care.
Solidarity in progress, the high school reacted quickly, underlines Elena’s mother.
Faced with the seriousness of the situation, the agricultural high school immediately released a social fund of 500 euros to help Elena's family cover the costs linked to her hospitalization. A Leetchi pot has also been opened to cover additional expenses, including travel and accommodation for his mother, Aurélie, who lives in Alès in the Gard.
Elena's younger brother, aged 11 and a student at Daudet college in Alès, benefits from increased support. The college management took measures to relieve the mother. The college immediately supported this family with the provision of free canteen for the youngest member of the family and personalized academic support including support courses.
An ongoing investigation
An investigation has been opened to understand the circumstances of this accident. The gendarmes, in collaboration with the school, the labor inspectorate and the Ministry of Agriculture, are seeking to determine possible responsibilities and the causes of this accident. For her part, Elena's mother is hoping for answers about the conditions that led to this dramatic event. “I want to understand and have answers,” she confides to us.
Despite the efforts of medical teams, Elena could have lifelong aftereffects, particularly in her foot.
