The Google Lens application will be enriched with a very practical function which will make Internet searches both more intuitive and faster. Let’s see how she plans to go about this.
If you use Google Lens on your Android smartphone, you know how practical the application is. For example, it is very useful when traveling thanks to the real-time text translation : you point the mobile camera at a restaurant menu, a poster or something else and the screen displays what is written in your language. You can also show it your homework (question, equation, etc.) so that the app can help you do it, or scan a handwritten text so that it can be transcribed without you having to type it yourself.
The Mountain View firm has recently simplified this function by integrating Google Lens into the Gboard keyboard. All this is already very useful, but the application could become even more so thanks to the arrival of a feature previously reserved for certain smartphone models such as the Galaxy S24 or the Pixel : Circle to Search. If you don’t know it, it appears when you hold the Home button on your mobile and, as its name suggests, allows you to surround an area of the screen in order to launch a Google search on what is delimited.

The integration of Surround to Search into Google Lens is not something trivial. The company wants to make the option accessible to as many people as possible, by going from 100 million current users to 200 million by the end of 2024. Using an app is a good solution for this. Concretely, the operation remains the same.

These are the first phases of testing and certain limitations noted will perhaps be lifted later, for example the fact that Circle for Search is active only when the 3 button navigation is used. But it is also possible that this is a deliberate choice, this mode of navigation being more widely used. For the rest, note that the function will be usable on any screen. All we have to do is wait for an official deployment at an as yet undetermined date.
