Motorcyclist died following accident

The Bernese Cantonal Police were informed on Thursday evening June 27, 2023 shortly before 8:10 p.m. of a traffic accident in Boltigen, involving a motorcycle and a car.

According to the first elements and for reasons that remain to be determined, the motorcyclist was driving on the Jaun Pass road, from Boltigen towards the pass, when he collided head-on with a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. reverse at the place called Zubeweidli. Despite emergency measures taken immediately, the driver of the motorcycle died on the spot. A second motorcyclist fell during this accident and was slightly injured. He received medical treatment on site. The driver of the car remained unhurt. The deceased is a 55-year-old Swiss man living in the canton of Fribourg.

For several hours, the Col du Jaun was completely closed to allow work related to the accident. A diversion was put in place by the firefighters. In addition to the Berne Cantonal Police, two ambulances, a Rega helicopter, specialists from the Institute of Forensic Medicine of the University of Bern, the Berne Care Team and the Boltigen fire brigade were mobilized. Investigations have been launched to determine the causes of the accident.
