The 31-year-old suspect was extradited from Portugal and is now in Canadian territory, confirms Pierre-Olivier Lévesque, spokesperson for the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ), early this afternoon.

Roobens Denis was arrested on March 1st thanks to a red notice issued by Interpol, at the request of the SPVQ.

Investigators from the MALSAIN project were deployed to Portugal to take charge of the suspect and ensure that he was brought back to Canada in order to appear before justice. Denis will face several charges related to firearms and drug trafficking.

He landed at Montreal-Trudeau International Airport shortly before 2 p.m. on Thursday. Denis was then escorted to a police station in Quebec City. Late in the afternoon, he was seen at the entrance to the Victoria power plant.

Man of confidence

Roobens Denis is considered the “right-hand man” of Dave Turmel, leader of the criminal group Blood Family Mafia (BFM), which has been waging a conflict against the Hells Angels for nearly a year in the Quebec region and its surroundings.

Unlike his right-hand man, Dave Turmel is not the subject of a red notice and has still not been located by the authorities. (SPVQ)

Quebec police have been looking for Roobens Denis since an operation carried out last July, where seven people were arrested. He had not been located although he was wanted for an arrest warrant.

As the 31-year-old was wanted for drug trafficking and conspiracy to traffic drugs, steps were taken to have Interpol issue a red notice for him.

Unlike his right-hand man, Dave Turmel is not the subject of a red notice and has still not been located by the authorities. He is still believed to be hiding in Europe.
