The majority of flights departing from Calvi, and Figari were canceled on Wednesday November 20, 2024, the port of Bastia (Upper Corsica) closed and 3,500 homes deprived of electricity in the face of violent winds which led Météo- to place the island on orange alert.

This alert, initially scheduled until 8 p.m., has been extended “until 11 p.m. at the earliest”indicated Météo-France on Wednesday afternoon.

At 6 p.m., 3,500 customers were without electricity in different places on the Isle of Beauty, from Corte (center) to Bastia, Ghisonaccia (east) or , indicates EDF Corse sur X.

“The wind is strengthening and making complete replenishment impossible this evening”specifies the electricity supplier who communicates the number 09 72 67 50 20 in the event of a downed electrical wire.

The shipping company Corsica Linea therefore specifies that the Bastia – crossing, scheduled for Wednesday, is replaced by an Ajaccio-Marseille crossing and that the times of some crossings are modified on Wednesday and Thursday.

The wind should calm down in the evening

The westerly wind should gradually calm down in the evening, Météo-France detailed.

School transport and intercity transport services operated by the Corsican Community (CDC) were not provided.

The two prefectures of Corsica invite people to limit travel and speed on the roads, not to walk in the forest or on the coast and to be vigilant, in town, in the face of possible falling objects.
