The Metz Eurometropolis wants to attract 8,000 inhabitants in 8 years: here is where it plans to build housing

The Eurometropolis of Metz (Moselle) has set its objectives to attract new residents over the period 2032-2040.

Attracting new residents while building housing and demolishing others to rebuild them, these are the challenges of PLUi (Intercommunal local urban planning plan) approved by the Metropolitan Council on June 3.

This set a population objective of 236 000 habitants at the end of the period 2032-2040, i.e. a increase of 8,000 inhabitants compared to the current population of the community (approximately 228,000 inhabitants). Here is how the Eurometropolis intends to achieve these objectives.

More than 11,000 homes built, including 4,000 for new arrivals

According to information provided by the Metz Eurometropolis, “to do this, 11,300 housing units are needednew construction, rehabilitation, reconstruction-demolition, densification, etc.”, whether in or outside urban areas.

According to the community, “approximately 7,000 must meet the needs of the inhabitants of the Eurometropolis, the rest to future residents.” So, 4,000 new homes will be built for new residents, while the rest will be made available to people already living there.

The community currently has 46 communesknowing that it expanded with the arrivals of Roncourt and of Lorry-Mardigny since acquiring its status as a metropolis. The figure could therefore change.
