A fire broke out this Wednesday, November 20, near the village of Pietra-di-Verde while the department was placed on orange “wind” vigilance.
According to the Haute-Corse emergency fire service (Sis2b), the fire is difficult to access. Classified for a time as “on track”, the flames “regained virulence” at the start of the evening. After reconnaissance, 20 hectares of vegetation were destroyed.
Three medium forest fire tankers are mobilized for the operation, as well as a super forestry tanker. The firefighters will thus try to “treat the lower part of the fire”, specifies Sis2b.
A pair of forest sappers are also engaged to cut down trees that have fallen on the road and are obstructing the progress of emergency services.
Since the start of the day, the Haute-Corse firefighters have been mobilized for around ten fire outbreaks. Some of them were notably due to burn-out.
