Haut-Rhin is one of the 49 departments classified under orange “snow-ice” vigilance by Météo France. “On Thursday, the Caetano depression crosses the center of France, from west to east and generates a significant air mass conflict. To the north of this depression, snowfall down to the plains is expected between the end of the night from Wednesday to Thursday and the evening of Thursday” explains the French weather agency.
Lots of snow in the south of Haut-Rhin
In detail, and according to Weather Monitoring Alsace, snow will start to fall on the plains in Alsace in the middle of the afternoon, first in Haut-Rhin. “We should expect around ten centimeters in the Altkirch, Ferrette and Mulhouse sectors, or even 20 centimeters south of Ferrette” explains Loïc Alter.
In the Colmar region, there will be between 5 and 7 centimeters of snow10 sometimes locally. Over the hours, the depression will rise towards the lower Rhine. Snowflakes will then remain on the roads of Bas-Rhin, with 3 to 5 centimeters expected in Strasbourg.
