Student engineers from the Sigma school near Clermont-Ferrand have created a prototype electric car, combining a passion for automobiles and sustainable development.

School Sigma, located near Clermont-Ferrand, is in turmoil. In the parking lot of this institution, an electric car prototype rolls for the first time, fruit of two years of work fiercely fought by a team of young engineers passionate.

A unique electric car designed by budding engineers

This vehicle is not only distinguished by its electric propulsionbut also by its driving pleasure. Nathan Roussilhes, first year student at Sigma School, explains: “We developed the car to be precise from the front, and to take it on twisty courses. It’s a car that corners very well. You feel a lot of sensations. It’s fun to drive.” tellhe told our colleagues at France Télévisions.
This innovative project aims to participate in a student car competition this summer. Each component of the car comes from Puy-de-Dôme, highlighting local know-how. The Sigma team managed to combine performance et sustainability.

This is a major challenge in the world of racing vehicles where the combustion engine is still king. “The notion of decarbonization involves electric mobility”indicates Nicolas Gayton, director of the Sigma school. “Showing that we can make beautiful objects from electrical energy is one of the challenges of the school.” For several years, engineering projects at Sigma have increasingly focused on the respect of environment. The electric car designed by these students is a perfect example. In addition to the car, the school is also working on an electric motorcycle, the Sigma Regen Superbikewith the ambition of seeing it participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans by 2028.

Sustainable engineering at the heart of the student project

One of the most remarkable aspects of the electric car prototype is its design et sa handling. Designed to be precise and agile on winding roads, it offers a unique driving experience. Student engineers have focused on driving pleasure, an essential element to seduce car enthusiasts. Sigma’s ambitious goal does not stop at the electric car. The school aims to make the Sigma Regen Superbike the first electric motorcycle to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans by 2028. This innovative motorcycle will be equipped with a energy regeneration systemcontributing to extend battery life thanks to braking.

Sigma student efforts will soon be featured to the public. In mid-September, they will unveil a first version of the motorcycle during mobility week, while the electric car will make a few laps on the Place de Jaude in Clermont-Ferrand. These demonstrations will highlight the talent et l’innovation budding engineers from Sigma, illustrating the ability of younger generations to contribute to a more sustainable future.
