Serious road accident: two dead and one seriously injured in the Laurentians

Alcohol and speed could be to blame in a terrible road accident which left two dead and one seriously injured very early Wednesday morning in Grenville-sur-la-Rouge, in the Laurentians.

In all likelihood, the accident would have occurred in the early hours of the morning, but it was not until early in the morning that the Sûreté du Québec police officers were informed.

Around two a.m., a neighbor reportedly heard a deafening noise coming from outside, but did not notice anything unusual.

But very close to his residence, a car had just collided with a tree at high speed.

The driver allegedly poorly negotiated a curve on the 2nd Concession, in an area where the speed limit is 40 km/h.

Three people were in the small car. A man in his 60s and a woman aged in her early 40s died, while the third occupant, a man aged in his early 40s, lost consciousness on impact.

He returned to consciousness several hours later, with the bodies of the two occupants at his side. Only then would he have managed to ask for help.

Seriously injured, the man is said to be the one who was driving the car at the time of the tragedy. He was taken to hospital, but his life is not believed to be in danger.

In all likelihood, the other two victims were not wearing their seat belts.

An accident scene reconstructionist from the Sûreté du Québec was dispatched to the scene early Wednesday to try to establish the cause and circumstances of this fatal accident.

It is not excluded that criminal charges may eventually be brought against the survivor.
