A fire broke out this Wednesday, November 20, near the village of Pietra-di-Verde while the department was placed on orange “strong wind” alert.
If the wind “is in clear decline”, according to the Haute-Corse emergency fire service (Sis2b), the fire remained difficult to access for a while. At the end of the afternoon, he was classified “on track”.
Three medium forest fire tankers are mobilized for the operation, as well as a super forestry tanker. The firefighters will thus try to “treat the lower part of the fire”, specifies Sis2b. Very long equipment is “in preparation to reach the head of the fire”.
A pair of forest sappers are also engaged to cut down trees that have fallen on the road and are obstructing the progress of emergency services.
Since the start of the day, the Haute-Corse firefighters have been mobilized for around ten fire outbreaks. Some of them were notably due to burn-out.
