The unemployed will see their allowance increased by 1.2% on July 1, Unédic announced this Thursday. This revaluation “ would concern approximately 2 million compensated job seekers » out of around 2.7 million in total, indicates the organization managed jointly by trade unions and employers’ organizations in a press release. The decision was taken during a board of directors of Unédic, made up of representatives of employees and employers, and was voted ” by a majority of the votes cast », adds the organization.

Unédic claims that it ” takes into account both the economic context and the financial balance of the unemployment insurance system ” She recalls that this revaluation ” comes after two others in 2023 (+1.9% on April 1, then +1.9% on July 1) “On average, the annual revaluation has been 1.68% over the last five years.

« For 2024, the amount of the revaluation would amount to 150 million euros for the unemployment insurance scheme and, for 2025, to 210 million euros “, she specifies in her press release.

A beneficiary who has not worked during the month and receives the minimum allowance will thus go from 979.29 euros gross to 991.07 euros gross, explains Unédic.

Revaluation of a “ extreme weakness », tackles the CGT

In a press release, the CGT denounced ” the extreme weakness of this revaluation ». « When all the unions demanded to take inflation into account, the employers stuck to a 1.2% increase. “, says the union.

« A few days before the legislative elections, the government and employers continue to target unemployment insurance recipients », criticizes the union, recalling that the government is preparing to publish the decree implementing the new controversial reform of unemployment insurance from December 1.

The CGT denounces positions ” of unspeakable gravity ” and an ” criminal obstinacy of the employers and the government ”, and this, while “ The far right thrives on social despair “. The unions are up against the reform of unemployment insurance, which comes in addition to those of 2021 and 2023. In fact, they fear increased precariousness of the unemployed, particularly among young people and seniors. Conversely, employers’ organizations are in favor of the reform.

Decree by July 1

Gabriel Attal assured in mid-June that the decree reforming unemployment insurance again would be well taken “ by July 1 », in the middle of the early legislative campaign.

« A decree will be issued by July 1 for this reform, which remains based on the same parameters as those put in place during the 2019 reform, and which, above all, are accompanied by better support for the unemployed in returning to work. “, affirmed the head of government on France Inter.

« It is a reform which consists of saying that you will have to work eight months out of the last 20 months to receive unemployment benefit. » (compared to six months out of 24 months so far, Editor’s note), he explained.

A draft government decree is currently being examined by the Council of State. According to this text, the duration of compensation will also be reduced, to 15 months for unemployed people under 57, compared to 18 months for those under 53 today.

Objective declared by the executive? Encourage people to return to work, reduce unemployment insurance debt (the debt of which amounts to 58 billion euros) and better finance support for job seekers by France Travail thanks to the surpluses that Unédic now generates , we explain to the Ministry of Labor.

The reform will allow savings of between 4 and 5.4 billion euros per year within four to five years, according to Unédic. In May, the government had set a target of 3.6 billion in annual savings. With the reform, ” there is either a delay in acquiring unemployment rights or exclusion from these rights, so it is quite massive “, explained Unédic CEO Christophe Valentie during a presentation to the press of Unédic’s financial forecasts up to 2027 on June 11.
