Saly, June 27 (APS) – The National Aquaculture Agency (ANA) has set itself the goal of achieving production in excess of five figures, APS learned from its new general director, Samba Ka.

“As a new director, we want to achieve, initially, a five-figure production, six, seven, why not,” said Samba Ka, during a training workshop for ANA agents in monitoring information systems in Saly (Mbour (west).

“We have all the physical potential, the sea, the rivers, the lakes and the land,” the new official noted.

Mr. Ka also discussed the country’s potential in terms of biodiversity and human resources, with students trained in aquaculture by several universities and ISEP (Higher Institutes of Professional Education).

Samba Ka intends to focus on creating an “incentivizing environment to attract investors in aquaculture”.

For him, this sector is beyond food security, an important provider of jobs.

“We will work with the government and all stakeholders to achieve this objective,” he reassured.

He considers that “many things have already been done, (still) to be done”, given that “the World Bank’s forecasts (are based on) aquaculture production that exceeds that of fishing”.

Senegal has adopted a national strategy for the sustainable development of aquaculture (SENDAC 2023-2032), the objective of which is to achieve, by 2032, a production of 65 thousand tonnes and the creation of 50 thousand jobs.
