The 2024 edition of the Telethon will last from November 22 to December 8 in Vendée. The big highlights will take place the weekend of November 29 to 1is December. “Nearly 400 actions, such as sporting challenges or unusual events, will be carried out in nearly 230 municipalities in Vendée with the help of hundreds of volunteers,” announces Daniel Gaboriau, coordinator of delegation 85 of the AFM-Téléthon association. “This year, the municipalities of Nalliers, Avrillé, Bois-de-Céné and Lairoux are participating in the event for the first time. » The map of all the events in the municipalities can be consulted on the AFM Téléthon 85 website.
The objective is to inform and raise funds for research into treatments against neuromuscular diseases. “Locally, we also work all year round to break the isolation of patients and family caregivers, but also to respect the rights of patients and disabled people, or even,” adds the departmental coordinator.
1.6 million euros collected in 2023
The 2023 edition of the Telethon raised 1.6 million euros in Vendée. Donations of an amount “historical” of €791,412 had been made via Internet and 3637. “The collection has never been so important in the department. One person even donated €300,000 to us,” recalls Daniel Gaboriau.
