He attributes this increase to the natural cycle of entrepreneurship.

Currently, we are in a new cycle of business creation, so people are creating businesses to prepare for their retirement, their semi-retirement and young people are starting businesses. The public market is one of the good places to test products, discuss with customers and it does not cost muchhe believes.

The product offering is diversified, ranging from a variety of fruits and vegetables, to candy, cheese, flour, bread and crafts. Customer traffic experienced a slight decline last summer compared to recent years.

We saw that during the pandemic, there was a real love for local products (…) Last year, there was a slight downward stabilization, but this year we hope that we will maintain last year’s pace.explains Richard Dessureault.

Suann Jacksic and her partner Derek Davis are in their first year in public markets with their company Our Little Life. They specialize in germination, microgreens and maple products that they produce in Angliers.

I want to introduce our products to people because I realize that it is little known, germination and microgreens. It is so beneficial nutritionally and it is very tasty.argues Ms. Jacksic.

Chicken from Duhamel-Ouest

This summer, producer Karine Rannou will be offering whole poultry raised and slaughtered on Île du Collège in Duhamel-Ouest at the public market.

A pilot project from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food allows her to slaughter 300 chickens that she raises on her farm. This avoids stress on the poultry during transport, given that we do not have a slaughterhouse in the region.underlines Ms. Rannou.

The exhibitor also offers ready-to-eat salads, microgreens and seasonal fruits.

My first slaughters will be towards the end of July, so people who prefer small chickens can definitely come at that time.she says.

The Ville-Marie public market is open every Thursday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., until September 12, in the city hall parking lot.
