The brown bins will be delivered to the territory of the City of Sept-Îles starting next week. More than 9,000 bins will be distributed door to door in addition to a kitchen bin and a memory aid. The collection of organic materials is planned for September.

The City of Sept-Îles announces the delivery of brown bins which will be used for the collection of organic materials which will begin in September.

The delivery by the USD Global company will be spread over a period of approximately ten weeks. The suburban areas will be the first to receive them. First in the west (Gallix, Clarke and Ferland) then in the east (Les Plages and Moisie). Finally, the delivery will end with the downtown areas.

“Since collection does not begin until September 16, it is important not to put anything in the bin for the moment,” specifies the City. “The population will be able to start filling it out the week before this first collection, i.e. around September 9.”

Brown bins will be collected once a week in the warm season from April to October and every two weeks in winter from October to April.

“The materials accepted in the brown bin are essentially: all food waste (including meat, bones, fish and seafood shells), garden waste and soiled paper and cardboard (including tissues and paper towels),” explains the City.

These materials will decompose to become compost that can be redistributed or used in parks and green spaces. More information will follow on the abacadabrun.com website.

This composting project aims to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
