At the beginning was Sleep, a stoner trio which managed to redefine marie-jeanne music during the 1990s. Once the adventure was over, Matt Pike founded High on Fire, another trio, which took the lead guitars of its predecessor but gave it a hell of a blow of kidneys overall. Cometh The Storm, released this year by MNRK Heavy, gives a good overview of the house recipe: the riff that swirls, the rhythm that beats. Invigorating. P. S.

High on Fire. Guin, Bad Bonn, Wed July 3 at 8:30 p.m.

Musique

For its 20th edition, the Friborg sacred music festival brings together exceptional Swiss, European and Oriental vocal ensembles around music linked by their spiritual dimension, from the Middle Ages to contemporary creation. We will particularly remember the concert on July 2 devoted to the musical awakening of Kurdish culture. The next day, we will find the excellent ensemble Scherzi Musicali by Nicolas Achten who will present an original program around the sacred work of Joseph-Hector Fiocco, Kapellmeister of Antwerp Cathedral in the 18th century. Friborg Sacred Music Festival. From June 29 to July 7.

Geneva

Movie theater

Three evenings of cinema under the stars… weather permitting. A screen and deck chairs is the summer concept of Ciné Signal, which offers three open-air screenings in Bernex: a classic musical documentary by Wim Wenders (Buena Vista Social Club1999), a Swiss comedy of anticipation (Bye-bye Bourbine2023) and a dramatic-romantic comedy full of tango (Goodbye Buenos Aires2023). S. G.

Cinema Signal. Bernex, Esplanade du Signal, from July 5 to 7 at 10 p.m. FREE ENTRANCE.

Festival

Three towns, six evenings, eight shows: this is the program of the aptly named Festival Eclaté, where street art comes to life in the open air – in every sense of the word. For this fifth edition, we will glean, between Carouge, Lancy and the Old Town, fakirism, juggling, puppets that can no longer be seen in painting… and even erotic tales in sign language. Entrance is free (with hats for the artists) and the festive atmosphere, enough to launch the summer under the best auspices. V. N.

Exploded Festival. Carouge: Jacques-Dalphin School courtyard; Lancy: place Pont-Rouge; and Old Town of Geneva, Terrasse Agripa from July 2 to 11, with eight shows between circus and fakirs…

Musique

3 years ago, just ahead of the Swiss Gjon’s Tears, she won second place for France in Eurovision with Voilà, an anthem between the manifesto and the petition which summoned Aznavour as much as Piaf or Barbara – with whom she shares her first name. Since the European competition, Barbara Pravi has won a Victoire de la Musique, played in the cinema, released an album and celebrated her 30th birthday. But the singer-songwriter remained faithful to her almost rolled “r’s”, this strong character and her commitment to women’s rights, she who spoke openly about the domestic violence suffered when she was younger. In the cozy setting of the Grange aux Concerts, its verve, theatrical but authentic, will take up all the space. V. N.

Barbara Pravi. Cernier, Evologia, la Grange aux Concerts, Friday July 5 at 8:30 p.m., as part of the Poésie en arrosoir festival.

Arts

Tenth edition for the Vision Art Festival of Crans-Montana, which has decided to place itself under the theme of “the ode to nature”. Sixteen artists were invited this year to propose works and open-air installations, scattered over 50 km2, between 1200 and 2600 meters above sea level. Numerous events and meetings accompany an event that has become unmissable. S. G.

Vision Art Festival. Crans-Montana, from July 1 to 14.

Vaud

Spectacles

There are 177 circus, dance, theater and music performances from 33 countries which will be concentrated around the cathedral while also taking place at the edge of the lake, in the Hermitage orchards or even at the Tridel factory for after-parties. For its 52nd edition – and as long as the weather permits, because, apart from a few gymnasiums, there are few possibilities for covered retreats – the Festival de la Cité should once again delight more than 100,000 people in Lausanne, from July 2 to 7. This year, Martine Chalverat and her programming team have designed a particularly exciting vintage with a strong Belgian presence and very caliente. Enough to defy the capricious sky? We hope so with all our hearts! M.-P. G.

City Festival. Lausanne, from July 2 to 7,
