A 25-year-old Tarn-et-Garonnais man managed to catch a huge catfish from the banks of the Tarn, very close to Montauban
He had dreamed of it for a long time. This Wednesday, June 26, fisherman Eddy Nouri, 25, put his rod on the banks of the Tarn, near Montauban. While he was accompanied by his girlfriend, this fishing enthusiast and in particular, catfish was put to the test. “From the sidelines, I understood who I was dealing with. Bent rod, bell and tripod gone: when getting started, I knew I had no room for error. I could hear the furrows of my rod squeaking and the reel cracking…” says Eddy Nouri.
A respectful “fight”
“This fish knew its river, it constantly sought to anchor itself in the submerged trees. After numerous headbutts and incredible rushes, I knew, thanks to perseverance and experience, to take the reins and tire him out to me,” continues the young man who was also able to count on the encouragement of his girlfriend to “motivate” him.
“Despite its power, I was able to come out of this fight with incredible memories. What a pleasure to be able to share such a moment with the largest freshwater fish at the end of my rod. It was a tough, tough and tiring fight but fought with all the respect I have for the catfish. Hoping to do even better. » We will therefore have to set the bar very high because Eddy Nouri still brought up a 2.30 m catfish with a weight of 101 kilos. Once its measurements were taken, the fish immediately returned to its natural habitat. “Like any fisherman, I was waiting for a monster like this,” slips the young man.
It’s no secret that the Tarn is a very privileged spot for catfish fishing. A few years ago, an Albigensian reeled in a 2.74 m long fish. To date, the world record is 2.80 m on the Po River in Italy.
