2024 legislative elections in Lorient: Ronan Loas does not want to say too much

The day after the European Elections and the dissolution of the National Assembly by the President of the Republic, Ronan Loas, the mayor of Ploemeur, announced, in a press release, that he would not be a candidate in the early legislative elections on 30 June and July 7, 2024. The elected official then explained that he did not want to “add confusion to the political landscape” of his constituency. He had made it known that he wanted “a new majority open to all the forces of the central bloc”.

There are silences that make more noise than certain words.

Furthermore, for several days, some have suggested that the mayor of Ploemeur, and unsuccessful candidate in 2022, would even position himself in favor of Damien Girard, candidate of the New Popular Front. The elected official denies. “I am not giving any voting instructions. What’s crazy is that the less I talk, the more people make me talk. There are silences that make more noise than certain words. I said I wouldn’t say anything. I said nothing. I will have a word on the evening of the first round,” comments the person concerned.

I remain convinced that many voters voted out of anger and that at some point reason will return.

“Very clear” position vis-à-vis the National Rally

Three days before this first deadline, Ronan Loas explains that he is “very involved in the elections” and recognizes that the current situation “worries” him. If he does not give voting instructions, considering that “people no longer believe in it and feel attacked”, he calls on voters to “look at the programs, question their value and their territory” . However, he refuses to allow his position to be seen as a refusal to call for votes against the far right. “I have always had a very clear position vis-à-vis the National Rally. I am not going to change depending on the elections.”

This Sunday, he “above all asks people to go and vote to avoid ending up with an election result that no one would have, in fact, anticipated. I don’t want to bash people who voted for the extremes, but I have always attacked the ideas of both the extreme right and the extreme left. All my speeches are extremely clear. I remain convinced that many voters voted out of anger and that at some point reason will return.”
