The wild boar is at the heart of numerous actions carried out by prefectures in the majority of French departments because the overpopulation of swine is a source of significant problems. In Finistère, the Prefecture has just announced that the trapping of wild boars is now authorized in all municipalities in the department.
Increased regulatory measures to combat the proliferation of wild boars.
The Prefecture of Finistère recently published a press release in which it explains that it is necessary to increase the pressure exerted on wild boar populations for several reasons.
First of all, the damage caused to crops is increasingly significant. Wild boars also represent a risk to human safety, particularly on the roads but also in the context of the spread of zoonoses.
To fight more effectively against wild boars, the administration recalls that hunting remains the main lever of action to regulate the species.
It therefore indicates that it can be hunted without limit until March 31, 2025 on the voluntary basis of hunting companies when companies are reported on their territories.
Louveterie lieutenants can also intervene and practice shooting at night when damage has been detected on a plot.
Trapping now authorized throughout the department.
In addition to these measures, the trapping of wild boars is now authorized in all municipalities in the department.

The prefect believes that this solution will make it possible to increase the number of catches more quickly and therefore have a greater impact on swine populations.
Several types of traps can be used in this sense: “This trapping, strictly supervised, can be carried out with selective traps such as cage traps, trap enclosures, falling net devices. »
However, not everyone can trap wild boars without supervision because it will be necessary to be an approved trapper, holder of a valid hunting license, to have followed specific training provided by the Finistère Hunters' Federation and to have have obtained individual authorization from the DDTM.
Precise monitoring will be required to know the number of samples and regular trapping locations.
Regarding the management of wild boars, arrangements have been made but will be the subject of further discussions with the communities.
