Six candidates are competing in the first round of the 2024 legislative elections in the 2nd constituency of Vienne. The most urban in the department since it brings together several sectors of Poitiers and the municipalities of La Villedieu-du-Clain, Vivonne and Vouillé. A constituency in which the left is doing better than in the rest of Vienna. If the Socialist Party came first in Poitiers in the European elections, it is the National Rally which dominates at the constituency level, with 22% of the votes, ahead of the PS (19.8%) and Renaissance (16.7%). ).

Sacha Houlié (Renaissance)

Located on the left wing of the macronie, Sacha Houlié will try to run for a third term. Faced with an RN candidate unknown to the general public, he highlights his territorial roots in Vienne. “I want to continue the work that I have done for seven years, because I am the MP that people know and who knows people. I have done a lot of people a service. 1500 people pass through my office almost every year,” assures the outgoing MP. He wants to defend the guarantee of public services, and in particular fight against class closures in rural schools. *”Allow to have a better service of access to care or even allow to have more security,”*continues the candidate who mentions additional police officers, magistrates and additional clerks.

Estelle Chevalier (National Rally)

Estelle Chevalier, 20, an earth sciences student at the University of Poitiers, represents the National Rally despite her young age. It focuses on the representation of young people and the fight against harassment. I think that maturity and skills are not really related to age. If I am running, it is above all to make students understand that we are here to help them and that yes, there are young people on the right. I know that at university, we are really hated by the other students and even by the administration,” denounces the student who also wants to fight against harassment “whether at school or even in the private sector.” She does not mention purchasing power but briefly addresses immigration, specifying that she is in favor of the establishment of national preference for the allocation of student accommodation. This is what Jordan Bardella will do if he is elected prime minister,” assures the candidate.

Valérie Soumaille (New Popular Front – La France Insoumise)

Valérie Soumaille, candidate for the Union of Lefts, is running against a candidate from the Socialist Party. It aims to prevent the far right from taking power and criticizes Macronie’s policies. “In Vienne, the Union of the Left is magnificent since I am supported by both Place publique and Raphaël Glucksmann. The socialists, the communists, the ecologists, I have the immense responsibility of preventing the extreme right from coming to power and of putting an end to the devastating policy of Macronie,” she says.

Aurélien Bourdier (Socialist Party)

“I belong to the Socialist Party. The only vote that took place at the local level was the vote of the Poitiers section which unanimously nominated me,” retorts Aurélien Bourdier. “As for me, my line is clear that of the socialist left,” proclaims the one who is also a lawyer at the Poitiers bar. Its priority: to restore purchasing power to the French by taking from the richest. “My first emergency measure will be that of blocking the prices of basic necessities. Second emergency measure: we cannot do anything other than increase the minimum wage. Now, beyond all that, I believe that at some point we will really have to ask ourselves the question of sharing of wealth within the company,” concludes the candidate.
