It was hot during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday in Paris. The thermometer only dropped below 20°C for a few minutes at the official Météo France station, located in Montsouris park, in the 14th arrondissement. But the temperature sometimes remained higher in the heart of the city, in the middle of the buildings. The feeling there was at a scorching level. This situation also makes it difficult to sleep well.

Official statistics will note that last night was neither tropical nor scorching in the capital. For a night to be considered scorching, the temperature must not fall below 21°C. However, it was less. Similarly, since the Montsouris station displayed 19.9°C for a few minutes, the night was not tropical since it must be at least 20°C all the time for it to be considered as such. At 1 o’clock, however, it was still 23.6°C, the equivalent of the average maximum temperature in the afternoon at this time of year.

Heatwave level in the city center

Looking in detail, however, the feeling for Parisians was different. At midnight it was still 24°C. It was only at 4 a.m. that the temperature dropped below the 21°C considered scorching, as the night approached. Furthermore, Paris barely escaped the tropical night because, although the meter showed 19.9°C around 6:15 a.m., this only lasted a few minutes since it was already 20.3°C at 6:55 a.m. . As announced several days ago, the fact that Paris is in a heatwave situation or not therefore depends on a very small difference.

Two weather stations, unofficial since they are not part of the Météo France network, but located in the middle of the city and not in a park, have displayed tropical and heatwave values. At Porte de Vincennes, in the east of the capital, the thermometer dropped below 21°C between 6:40 and 7:10 a.m. only. The readings are therefore tropical all night long. Another station, located in the city center, in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, in the 6th arrondissement, has never dropped below 21°C, maintaining a heatwave level throughout the night.

A feeling of around thirty degrees at midnight

Finally, the study of the level of temperature felt is also very different from recording the official temperature alone. This measurement, which takes into account air humidity, reached a low point of 24.4°C in Montsouris, reached only around 6 a.m. It remained above 28°C at midnight. In the stations located in the middle of the city it is necessary to add approximately two degrees: Porte de Vincennes and in Saint-Germain, the feeling was around thirty degrees around midnight and 26°C around 6 a.m.

The night from Wednesday to Thursday is expected to be the hottest of the week in the region. The thermometer should rise again. But between Thursday and Friday, the temperature is expected to drop by several degrees.
