At the invitation of the Federal Republic of Germany, the head of Moroccan security, Abdellatif Hammouchi, met his counterparts around security challenges, particularly in view of sporting events, among others.

Bilateral cooperation in security matters was at the heart of discussions between Morocco, represented by the Director General of National Security (DGSN) and Territorial Surveillance (DGST), Abdellatif Hammouchi, with senior German security officials, during his working visit to the Federal Republic of Germany from June 24 to 26.

Responding to an official invitation from the German side, Mr. Hammouchi held working sessions with Dieter Romann, President of the Bundespolizei, and Holger Münch, President of the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), as well as with other officials specializing in the fight against terrorism and the security of sporting events. The talks mainly focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the areas of the fight against terrorism, organized cross-border crime, and the security of major sporting events. And in particular on the means to be implemented.

According to a press release from the DGSN-DGST pole, the two parties examined the results of cooperation between Morocco and Germany in the police field, and looked at the security challenges arising at the regional and international level.

During this visit, Mr. Hammouchi and his delegation visited the German Joint Counterterrorism Center in Berlin. They were able to discover the coordination mechanisms between the different German security services and explore the prospects for cooperation with the Moroccan authorities in the fight against cross-border terrorist threats.

The program of this visit also included the study of possibilities for collaboration in the field of sports security, as well as mechanisms for exchanging expertise and technical assistance for securing major events.

Mr. Hammouchi took note of the security measures and standards put in place by the Berlin police to supervise the UEFA Cup currently underway in Germany. A visit to the facilities of the Berlin Olympic Stadium, which hosts Euro 2024 matches, and the Police Operations Management Center provided an opportunity to become familiar with the security and safety protocols adopted for this event.

This visit aims to draw inspiration from German experience in the organization and security of major events, with a view to advanced preparations in Morocco to host international sporting and security events, such as the 93rd session of the Assembly. General Interpol in 2025, the African Cup of Nations, and the 2030 World Cup, organized jointly with Spain and Portugal.

Mr. Hammouchi’s visit to Germany illustrates the importance of security cooperation between the two nations, and reflects the constant commitment of the DGSN and the DGST to contribute to international efforts to neutralize threats to regional and global security , concludes the press release.
