Jonquière in music, Saguenay in theater

Because the cultural offerings are immense in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, and it can be difficult to stay on top of them, our arts journalist, Marc-Antoine Côté, does the work for you. Every week, he offers you ideas for musical, theatrical, humorous and all kinds of outings, as well as suggestions for getting your fill of art, even from the comfort of home.

As I said, it starts this weekend for Jonquière en Musique, and it starts strong apart from that! With Claudia Bouvette on Friday, Lendemain de Vive on Saturday, Steeve Desgagné and his Graceband on Sunday, then Laurence Jalbert on Monday, for Canada Day. So many artists who, in line with the mission of the festival, will see their opening act provided by up-and-coming local artists. The day after Jam, Grand Chef Bandit, Les Big Wheels and Gabrielle Edda will take turns on stage, in the early evening, during this first weekend of festivities.

But the musical action will certainly not be confined to the Rivière-aux-Sables park.

At the Palace Theater in Arvida, for example, this Saturday, rappers Manu Militari and Souldia will perform in a double bill, during an evening that promises to be rhythmic and rich in poetry.

Then at the Chicoutimi Port Zone, Monday evening, the Kaïn training will offer Like in time its greatest classics, as a celebration of Canada Day. Just after a first part provided by the Blueberry Country Band.

But no need to wait until Monday either for a musical release. At the Café du Clocher d’Alma, on Friday we welcome the indie pop funk of the Almatian group Social Mess, at the same time as the alternative rock of Gawbé. It’s promising, you’ll agree after listening to these two beautiful proposals.

The next day, this same Café du Clocher will invite its audience into the country world of Petunia – who will perform there without her Vipers. On the menu for the evening: guitar, enveloping vocals and nostalgic tunes!

For its part, in Péribonka, the Island of Rest will lend its stage on Friday to Kirà Chao – son of Manu Chao – whose Brazilian rhythms, between merengue and samba, should ignite the place. A musical change of scenery which will be a nice introduction to the Saturday offering, while Marco Calliari and Mamselle Ruiz will bring Mexico and Italy to the small Jeanne hall, they who with this tour are celebrating their respective twentieth anniversary of career in song.

Between all these shows, I invite you to a little homemade suggestion this week. If you haven’t already done so, it could be a very good idea to get to know the world of Rau_Ze, who will be performing more than once in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean over the next few weeks, notably at La Noce and at the Les Denises du Lac festival. If you like Les Louanges, I would dare say that it’s a foregone conclusion for your ears!

And have you seen this brand new collaboration between Hubert Lenoir and P’tit Belliveau? It’s been live for just a few hours, and I’m already sold!

Since Tuesday, Molière has come back to life at Côté-Cour, where the Théâtre 100 Masques presents the play George Dandin or the Confused Husband, for the 25th summer of its history. You will learn more about this on your Daily digital, over the next few days, but I can already confirm that the production is well worth the detour to Jonquière. In addition to discovering or rediscovering a great classic, you will have a good laugh at the misfortunes of poor Dandin!

For its part, the Opéra du Kingdom will unveil the programming for its next season, Thursday evening, as part of a benefit gala evening which will transport the public “From Paris to Saguenay”, at the Mont-Jacob Cultural Center. The new general director Marie-Eve Munger will take the stage for the occasion with a few musicians, choristers and soloists, in a cabaret-concert format.

Then on Saturday and Sunday, the Opéra du Stratégie will travel between Place du Couronne, the Agora de La Baie, the Jonquière Center and the Terrasse des Cascades in Alma to present for free Pygmalion: Branch in the street. A 20-minute experimental project that promises to push the boundaries of lyrical theater, while bringing it to the heart of the community.

Even if it extends beyond the weekend, we should also not forget the productions of La Route des Légendes, which begins its summer season on Tuesday, between Saint-Eugène-d’Argentenay, Sainte-Monique-de-Honfleur and Saint -Fulgent. As director Hubert Bolduc and artistic director Jimmy Doucet told me in an interview earlier this week, the season promises to be fertile in hunting and fishing anecdotes, spaghetti western clichés and rock’n’n’roll tunes. ’50s roll.

In humor, the colorful Dolmissois Mat Lévesque will take over the Salle Lionel-Villeneuve in Roberval on Thursday. He will present Grunge, a second solo show which promises to be full of unrelatable anecdotes. Saturday, the comedian will also be at Pub Le Laser in Saint-Honoré.

On the La Baie side, the Brasserie Port-Alfred will entrust the orders for Friday evening to Karine O’Kay, Bleu Matrix, King of Flesh and Billy Pup, in what has been called the Saguenay Drag Queen Show.

In literature, I don’t have a new book to suggest to you this week (I don’t read fast enough, apparently!), but there is an event to which I would like to draw your attention. It’s happening this Wednesday evening from 7 p.m. on Quai Laurier-Simard, just behind the Musée du Fjord in La Baie – which is presenting the event with the Book Fair -, and it will take the form of an outdoor reading. Charles Sagalane and Julien Gravelle will read to you their most recent publication – which you recently heard about in your Daily! Did you do that well? In the event of rain this Wednesday evening, the event will be postponed to Thursday.

On the big screen, there is the new chapter of American production A quiet corner (A Quiet Place) which is arriving in theaters. Fans of the series The Office may be disappointed to see that John Krasinski (aka Jim Halpert) is no longer starring in it, but he still co-wrote the screenplay.

The film will be released alongside the excellent Upside Down 2and Quebec feature films Tell me why these things are so beautiful, which tells the story of the correspondence relationship between Marie-Victorin and Marcelle Gauvreau. My colleague Yves Bergeras, at Rightspoke a few days ago about a historical film of great beauty that borders on perfection.

On the small screen, Prime Video subscribers will surely rejoice at the arrival of the documentary I am: Celine Dion on the platform.

And on Disney, there is the continuation of the excellent series The Bear which finally comes to us. If you don’t know, consider yourself lucky to now have three great seasons ahead of you. I envy you!

In visual arts, things are not slowing down in the region.

There is the mysterious sacred disaster by Pierre-Olivier Tanguay at the Espace Séquence at the Bang Center, the luminous work of Mathieu Valade at the Espace Virtuel at the CEM, the retrospective by Daniel T. Tremblay at La Pulperie, the universe by Sylvie Poitras at Galerie 5 (until Saturday), and the Pedneault family exhibition at L’Art de vivre (until Sunday).

And there are also Paméla Landry and Diane Laurier who await you at Langage Plus in Alma, Jacinthe Baribeau and Diane Simard at the CNE, Yann Pocreau at the Sagamie Center, as well as the exhibition Show us the worldwhich is officially back on the Sainte-Anne bridge, after being vandalized.
